Coordinator’s Updates

Welcome Back to an Exciting Year of Student Leadership and Activities!

Welcome back to another promising school year! As we embark on a new school year together, I wanted to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your dedication and enthusiasm in guiding our student leaders. Your support is crucial in nurturing the voices and potential of our students, empowering them to shape their school and community positively.

This year, we have an exciting lineup of programs and events designed to inspire and engage our student leaders. Here are a few highlights to look forward to:

  • Leadership Workshops and Conferences: These sessions will provide students with the tools and skills necessary to lead effectively, fostering confidence and creativity.

  • Community Service Projects: Our students will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact in their local communities, learning the value of empathy and civic responsibility. Our State Service project will be a collaborative effort partnering with the United Way.

  • Student-Led Initiatives: Encouraging students to propose and implement their own projects allows them to take ownership of their ideas and see them come to fruition. We will be expanding our student led workshops and Idea Shares at our upcoming events.

  • Inclusion of Wellness and Cultural and Diversity Programming: Throughout the year our events will celebrate the rich diversity within your schools, promoting inclusivity and understanding among your student body.

  • Peer Mentoring Opportunities: Experienced student leaders will mentor newer members, ensuring the continuation of a supportive and collaborative leadership community. We plan to have a number of events in which our High School student leaders will be working with our Middle Level students.

The importance of student leadership cannot be overstated. By providing our students with opportunities to lead, we are equipping them with essential life skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication. Moreover, their voices bring fresh perspectives and innovative solutions to our school, making it a dynamic and forward-thinking environment.

Your role as an advisor is pivotal in this process. Your guidance helps students navigate challenges, develop their leadership styles, and realize their full potential. Together, we can create a vibrant community where every student feels valued and empowered to contribute.

Thank you for your continued commitment to fostering student leadership. I am excited to see the incredible achievements our students will accomplish this year under your mentorship.

Here's to a year filled with growth, inspiration, and meaningful experiences!

Warm regards,

Greetings Student Activity Advisor!

My name is Trisha Bemboom and I am the new Coordinator of Student Activities for the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP). As a former teacher, I understand the mix of excitement and anxiety as you return to your school for the start of the 2023-2024 school year. I am excited to help support you in one of the most important roles that you play in your school. Your role as an advisor is among the most rewarding and most difficult out there. However, along the way, I am  committed to providing you and your students with resources, programming and support to make this a year of excellence.

One of the first ways that we can support you as you begin your school year is to register your school as a member of the Minnesota Association of Honor Societies (MAHS) and Minnesota Association of Student Councils (MASC). The networking and resources that are available will allow you to serve your school and students in a dynamic way.

As a member of the organization, you will have access to:

  • Mentorship Meetups
  • The Resource Library filled with best practice ideas, articles and activities
  • Conferences, workshops and scholarship opportunities
  • Support and networking with advisors from across the state and nation
  • Products for your Honor Society including cards, pins, certificates and cords

The Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals, our parent organization, has 96% of the middle and high school principals as members. If cost is a factor, talk to your principal about finding a funding source. Schools that are members consistently rejoin every year because they find value for their students and themselves.

I am excited to meet you and support you as you begin your 2023-2024 school year. Let me know if I can help in any way.
